Medical Insurance Bureau (MIB)
The Medical Insurance Bureau (MIB) helps protect you from the cost of fraud (intentional or unintentional) committed by applicants for insurance.
With the written permission of the proposed life insured, the underwriter can access the MIB database, which contains information about lives on whom insurance applications were submitted
- member insurers must report specified medical information gathered during underwriting
- MIB provides codes for specific impairments
- underwriter can then request more information from other sources
- helps flag whether relevant medical information was concealed by the proposed life insured
